April Ipsy Glam Bag- First Impressions

Nancy Sparkles_Ipsy copyA few days ago I received my April Ipsy Glam Bag and was seriously impressed by the products, which wasn’t always the case. Back in January, I decided to renew my Glam Bag because it was around the time when I began revamping my blog. I had the subscription previously, but I was honestly never impressed. I had a few hits here and there, but it wasn’t enough to justify spending $10 every month (especially considering I was on my college budget at the time). However, these past few months have been getting better and better in quality and value. Here are some of my first impressions after a couple of days of trying out these products.

Crown Brush (C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush). This product was probably one of the ones I was the most excited about. It’s extremely soft and considering how light it feels, it picked quite a bit of product and applied beautifully on my cheeks. I recently bought Wet N’ Wild’s Color Icon Blush in Rose Champagne and this brush made the application so seamless that it didn’t feel like I had to be super careful about overdoing it.

Starlooks Cream Eyeshadow (Rose Gold). One of the biggest goals I had this year was to go out of my comfort zone and start trying makeup that’s outside of the typical eyeshadow powder formula. I had used a few paint pots before, but I was still curious on trying cream eyeshadows. Part of me expected this product to be exactly like my holy grail Rubenesque, but this was definitely a formula of it’s own. At first application, the product looked beautiful because the entirety of the swatch wasn’t blended out and all of the color and metallic finish of it was intact. However, I was disappointed afterwards when I began applying the product as I typically would with a paint pot. As I started patting it on my eyelid, it became super patchy and the areas where it dried just felt very heavy (photo above shows initial application on the left and blended out on the right). The color was beautiful, but I was really hoping the formula would match it’s looks. I’ll be playing around with it more this month, so stay tuned on any updates!

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Crème (Wonder). Seriously, how beautiful is this shade?! I have quite a few red and pinky red lipsticks in my collection, but nothing matches this shade at all! It’s the perfect color for spring and summer and this is definitely one of the smoothest and long-wearing lip crayons that I own. I wasn’t sure what it was but when I first applied it, my lips looked incredibly smooth and the formula overall just felt really light. It’s the type of lip color that you forget you’re wearing until you’re halfway done downing the chips and guac (ha!). Also, huge bonus points to Tarte for making this sample still twist more product out. Am I already in love? Yes. Will I actually buy the full size? YES!

MoroccanOil TreatmentThis product I have actually already owned the full-size of and I love it! It doesn’t have a chemical smell, if anything it smells really good and light. It doesn’t leave any residue or make your hair greasy after a few days. As a girl with thick, wavy hair, this product was a lifesaver when it came down to using it before styling it. I usually just straighten my hair and this amped up the silkiness and overall made my hair feel so much healthier over time. Definitely recommend!

Jor’el Parker Fango FacemaskUnfortunately I was only able to try this product once because my acne recently cleared up and being super paranoid, I decided to not mess with my skin so much and give this another try later this month. The smell was ok, it smelled like your typical mud mask (kinda musky, but sweet depending on the oils added in). It dried down pretty quickly, which I didn’t mind because it was thick enough that I wouldn’t have to go over one spot again just to fully cover it. Once I rinsed it off with warm water, my face felt extremely clean and refreshed the next morning. As I mentioned, I’ll definitely give this a go a few more times before I give it a full review later, but as far as first impressions went… I’m not scared that it’ll damage my sensitive skin.

Needless to say, that I really enjoyed my April Ipsy Glam Bag. I’m definitely planning on sticking with the subscription and letting you all know my initial thoughts and final reviews on these products in the future! Did you get any of these in you glam bag this month? Let me know what you think! Until next time ✨

What’s New at the Drugstore- Wet N’ Wild

Wet N' Wild
Is it just me or is this gloomy Houston weather putting all of us in a rut? For the past few weeks, I had been playing with the same makeup, with the same hairstyle and even putting the effort to make sure that I had a “daily” routine. WHAT. Who am I talking about, because if you asked me a few months ago if I had a “daily” routine, I would cry laughing. I loved my spontaneous life and while I did have my wake up and sleeping routines, having my entire day scheduled out to minimize anything distracting me was too much. It finally hit me a few days ago and decided that I needed a change. I asked myself, what do you WANT right now? What makes you happy when you attain it? Not giving it a second thought, I ran to Walgreens and bought makeup. As I was shopping, I realized that this blog is something else that really makes me happy. While I love my job and I love what I do, writing about something I’m passionate about is a whole other story. After check out, I made the decision to start doing more things I love. While it’s buying more makeup to review on a weekly basis, writing on my blog more or even taking my little Tino on adventures, I don’t want to keep living a life of Would’ves, Could’ves & Should’ves. I’m a 22-year-old, it’s time I start living like one!

My 5 Ready-To-Work Lipsticks

FullSizeRender 4

For as long as I can remember, I have always been pretty low-maintenance when it came to lip makeup. As a girl who’s always on the go, I needed my staple lipsticks to be neutral colors that were easy enough to apply without the hassle of using lipliner or even a mirror at times. However, as my style developed, I was still looking for the “easiest” lipstick to use, but I started using lipliner and other shades of lipsticks that would make my everyday work outfits pop rather than blend in. Here are my 5 Ready-To-Work lipsticks for the everyday glam #bossgirl. ??

My Favorite Beauty Discoveries of 2015

2015 was a whirlwind within many aspects of my life, especially my makeup routine. I ventured off from my usual brown/taupe shadows and explored the colorful world of metallics, plums, bricks and when I felt like braving it…glitter! I also gave mauve and red lips more attention all while trying, more than I can remember, liquid foundations. Least to say that 2015 was the year my makeup game improved for the best. As we start the new year with the latest new product launches and an overwhelming amount of displays at the drugstore, here’s a quick recap of my favorite beauty discoveries of 2015.

Naked 3 Palette: I mean, this is a cult-favorite for a reason. This palette is the reason why I started delving into the rosy shade spectrum. From first application, I fell in love! Not only did I just love these shades on my skin tone, but it also brings out the brown in my eyes a lot more vibrantly. I also started to getting inspired to try brick and purple shades! Needless to say that this palette was a turn for the best for my eye shadow game.

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara: First off, I haven’t tried that many high-end mascaras because I generally refuse to spend $40 on a mascara that does the same job as a drugstore one. However, I have one exception now: Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. It’s one of the blackest, most lengtening and volumizing mascaras I have ever tried. I have repurchased this baby throughout all of 2015 and I regret nothing, although my wallet may not agree. If it’s one thing that you may want to splurge on just to try out, give this mascara try. It will definitely not disappoint!

Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil: The shade Bahama is one of the best shades to just stick in your purse and apply on the go when you’re rushing out the door. While it’s super pigmented on the lips, it’s soft enough to make clean up easier should you be applying without a mirror in hand. It’s non-drying formula also makes it the perfect work lipstick because it’s pretty low maintenance and long lasting.

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper: A few years ago I started filling in my brows and my life has never been the same. Over the years, I’ve tried all types of brow products in the powder and pomade realm. I never realized how unruly my brows until I started using this brow mascara. I mainly noticed a difference in how much cleaner and put together my brows looked. A huge plus about this product: it contains magical little fibers that will make your brows pop with fullness and shape.

Urban Decay Shadows: Specifically, I’m speaking about Sidecar. This beautiful shade swayed my thoughts about glitter being the enemy. The glitter in Sidecar didn’t overwhelm me and there was little to no fallout every time I applied it. One of the biggest benefits from this shadow is how dimensional it is, so essentially this could be the only thing you put on your eyes and you’re good to go.

E.L.F. HD Powder in Corrective Yellow: As I started improving my highlighting skills, I delve into the world of “baking.” No, not the kind that involves an Easy Bake oven, but the one that involved your cheeks, a light colored concealer and powder. This technique became seamless once I started using this powder. Not only does it truly help with brightening and smoothing, but it corrects the minor redness that’s around my nose and cheeks. It’s a finely milled powder that I’ve heard beats Ben Nye’s Banana Powder out the ballpark. Although I’ve never tried Ben Nye, I can imagine why this powder is a common must-have in the beauty community.

Stila Sparkle Waterproof Eyeliner: With my love of glitter emerging, I couldn’t help but to venture into glitter eyeliner. I was actually pretty happy about this product because my main concern was the flecks of glitter falling into my eyelid throughout the day. Thankfully, there was no fall out but I was pleasantly surprised at the longtime wear of the glitter on this liner.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Shadow Couture Eye Shadow Palette: This is kinda cheating considering I got this for Christmas, but I needed to add this palette to the list because I already know that it’s going to be a routine-like product for me. Soft Peach, Fudge and Spoiled are my go to shades for a daytime smokey eye and when I’m feeling festive, Pink Champagne is the best without fail.

L’Oreal Infallibe Pro-Matte Foundation: I really don’t need to say much about this product right? I mean, I wrote a whole blog post about how this is the perfect foundation for every Houstonista. Check it out here!

Why Every Houstonista Needs to Try L’Oreal’s Pro-Matte Foundation

We’ve all experienced Houston’s version of bipolar weather time and time again. From 101 degrees to stormy days, it’s no secret that humidity is the enemy we all love to hate. Not only does it put a damper on what’s to be considered a happy and sunny day, but it ruins the smaller aspects of our everyday lives. Most importantly, our makeup that we spend a good chunk of every morning doing to look the least bit presentable for our big boy/girl jobs. Like many Houstonian’s, I turn into a greaseball if I don’t use the right type of foundation, setting powder and concealer that’s suitable for “wet” air. However, after years of my on-going search for a holy grail foundation, the hunt is over. L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro Matte foundation has been out for several months now. Suffering from oily skin, I couldn’t help but to pass on this foundation knowing that it had a “demi-matte” finish. Anything that says dewy, natural or demi has always done me wrong and embarrassed me to say the least. Well, it all changed when I made a quick visit to CVS and decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. In my most melodramatic thoughts, I knew my life changed for the best. While I know it may not work for everyone, giving new foundations a try is always the best step to take when on the hunt for your holy grail. Here’s some of the reasons why EVERY Houstonista needs to try this foundation ASAP.

Formula: Light and no oxidation, what more could you want? This almost liquid formula surprised me because of the high coverage that came with just one layer. It feels like a really thin sheet over your skin, but nothing else. If you really want a super high coverage with almost to no hyper-pigmentation showing, go ahead a lightly add another layer to where you need it the most. Be careful! This foundation can look extremely cakey if you apply a really thick layer at first.

Color: Because it doesn’t oxidize on me at all, this foundation holds true to color and I never realized how much I really appreciate that. From first application, I already have a general idea of how my face will look for the majority of the day. However, one thing I don’t appreciate is the color selection. Unfortunately, there’s not too many for those who are in-between shades so I definitely recommend mixing the shades that would suit you the best.

Application: Contrary to popular belief, sometimes your fingers serve as the best brushes for your face. Depending on the foundation, your fingers have the ability to reach every inch and can make an even application a lot easier. Big tip= you’ll be extremely surprised by how little foundation you actually use just from utilizing your fingers. Many foundation brushes and sponges will absorb a lot of product without you realizing it.

Longevity: To be honest, this is probably the sole reason why I fell head over heels for this foundation. Because of the heavy and constant humidity, my foundation has the horrible habit of breaking around the creases of my face by the end of the day. This foundation may possibly have some kind of heavy-duty miracle worker in it because it does not budge within the span of a whole work day and beyond. It’s almost comforting knowing that I don’t have to worry about touching up my entire face if I ever want to enjoy happy hour after a long day of work. The less I have to worry about, the happier I’ll be.

Fall 2015 Beauty Must-Haves!

For many, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. However, for this girl, fall makes me swoon for everything in the fashion and beauty world. The weather allows for bearable patio weather, plum lips are a thing of the norm and I have a reason to drink hot coffee without the “it’s hot outside” judgement. With all these wonderful things said, I gathered up a few fall beauty gems that will be on my wish list this season.

  1. Marc Jacobs- Le Marc Lip Crème in Grape Sangria: Last year I started venturing into plum and darker lips and while I’m still getting acquainted, I found that some shades are almost fool-proof. When I tried on this shade at Sephora, I immediately fell in love. The creamy, velvety formula felt so comfortable that I was really surprised by the lasting power on this sucker. Judging from the compliments I received that day, I will probably be purchasing this gem real soon.
  2. BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Champagne Pop: While my skin is naturally oily, throughout the years I have found ways to tame it and notice the difference between glow and shine. I still struggle with oil-control, but using highlighters has definitely helped me appreciate the glow factor. This shade is perfect for regular work days and a night out with the girls. With how flexible this shade is, Jaclyn Hill created what will soon be my holy grail highlighter.
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit: Of course, the light/medium kit would be sold out on Sephora online. Regardless, once this gem comes back in stock, I will be investing a pretty penny on this contour kit. During the fall, I love defined and structured faces to pair with smoky eyes. While slowly but surely I’ve been upping my contour game, I think it’s finally time to put some money towards a high-end kit. At first swatch, these powders were incredibly blendable and creamy with no patchiness whatsoever.
  4. BURBERRY BEAUTY Lip Definer – Bright Plum: This shade is super convertible with many lipsticks that I already own, so naturally it makes sense to finally get my hands on this lip pencil. Like I mentioned before, I love structure and definition during the fall and winter and with that I have to make sure that my bold lipstick shades stay in place throughout a whole work day or night out. I was always that girl that never believed lining my lips would make that big of a difference, but once I started, I never wanted to go back. It’s a game-changer and I definitely recommend everyone to try it out for themselves.
  5. Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette: If you know me, you know I have an endless love for all things matte, specifically eyeshadows. Who cares if I own 5 shades that are probably exactly the same, I don’t think I’ll ever have enough. The Tartelette palette has been on my wishlist for a while now, but now that fall is coming I may just end up splurging and declare it a #treatyoself gift. From trying this on at Ulta the other day (for the 100th time), I just know that this will be my go-to for majority of my eye looks this fall/winter.
